Like a Virgin - water pure and clean
Health and well-being are top of mind in the working relationship between Virgin Active and ProMinent Fluid Controls (South Africa) – Virgin Active was challenged to exercise stricter control over the water coming into its 76 clubs across the country and ProMinent Fluid Controls provided a solution in the form of the LegioZon® chlorine dioxide generator.
The challenge
- Eliminate Legionella and other waterborne bacteria and viruses in all incoming water by treating hot and cold water supply systems.
- Ensure safe, simple and reliable disinfection of all water for human consumption and leisure activities.
- Replace conventional sodium hypochloride disinfection.
- Guarantee value-added benefits for existing and future customers.
- Supply a complete turnkey service within six weeks.
The solution
- Install the LegioZon® Type CDL 5 chlorine dioxide generating system offering dosage accuracy via a flow-proportional impulse water meter.
- Ensure continuous measurement and control of residual levels of chlorine dioxide by means of the portable DT1 spectrographic photometers.
- Dose chlorine dioxide proportionally into the system with Dulcofilt filters, Impulse water meters and inline static mixers on the intake piping.
- Maintain a residual requirement of between 0,2 to 0,4 ppm for continuous disinfection of the incoming water.
- Flush taps and shower heads with a regular cleaning schedule.
Why chlorine dioxide?
In keeping with the Virgin Active quest for healthier, alternative technologies, chlorine dioxide replaces chlorine as a stronger disinfectant, independent of the water’s pH. Due to its specific chemistry, chlorine dioxide has wide-ranging application in potable water and wastewater treatment, Legionella prevention, the treatment of product and process water in the food and beverage industry, and in cooling water treatment.
