The challenge in the Porto Carras Grand Resort
The hotel with approx. 2,000 beds suffered from a loss of guests, not least because of the supply with saline brackish
water. The water quality thus had urgently and drastically to be improved. The hotel
looked for a solution independent of the unreliable, public water supply.
The solution
- Complete construction of the new drinking water treatment system
- Pre-treatment of the seawater by shock disinfection, inline flocculation, multimedia filtration, and chemical treatment for the reliable and continuous operation of the desalination systems
- Seawater desalination by reverse osmosis systems with a capacity of 3 x 600 m3 of drinking water per day
- Post-treatment of the desalinated water by pH value correction against corrosion
- Disinfection to guarantee that the water is germ-free
- Project completion within only 20 weeks
- Process control by remote maintenance and provision of a service technician at site during main season
Thanks to ProMaqua, additional facilities such as e.g. fitness club, conference centre etc. became possible thanks to the offered water quality and availability.
MANAGER:

“It was a good thing that ProMaqua assumed the overall responsibility
for the water treatment in Porto Carras at that time. It took only 5 months
from the fi rst project discussion to the fi rst glass of drinking water. The ultimate
accolade for our hotel: Porto Carras was chosen by the Greek president
as venue for the Greek EU summit in 2003.”
